August 14, 2009 Project Lifesaver was chosen as the Commonwealth of Virginia Council on Aging’s 2009 Best Practices Award Winner. That’s a mouthful! Basically, the Commonwealth Council on Aging consists of people appointed by the Virginia legislature and governor to spotlight concerns of seniors to the various state lawmakers. The Council was so impressed with the Project Lifesaver organization that they decided to honor their achievements by presenting this award. You can bet that the state legislature is now aware of Project Lifesaver and the valuable services it provides.
On hand to present the award was Betty Bowden, Second Congressional District Representative. Gene Saunders, CEO of PL, collected the award.
A history of Project Lifesaver was given and some interesting statistics were cited: Project Lifesaver in Hampton Roads (all) are collectively coming up on the 2000th rescue! All of these rescues had a happy ending, and all were accomplished within 30 minutes! Wanderers….BEWARE!
