The Virginia Beach Project Lifesaver Program, is under the guidance of a well established, dedicated board of citizens, whose one goal is to fund a program beneficial to fellow citizens who have been diagnosed with Autism, Alzheimer’s and other mental and physical disabilities.
The Virginia Beach Police Department is committed to this program, which has grown from 12 to over 285 clients in the several years since they began managing it. This commitment is displayed in the hearts of over 80 plus police officers, supervisors and emergency service workers, who have made the commitment to not only be trained to use the equipment which successfully locates “wandering” clients, but to form a “heartfelt” bond with the client and the caretaker as each month the client’s battery and transmitter must be changed and checked for accuracy.
This program is no small undertaking, yet the benefits are real. The caring attitude of a Department and a command staff that respects life and understands the meaning of PRIDE and a safe community wouldn’t put the trust in a program like Project Lifesaver unless it works! And clearly, it does work!
